UltraCrete PY4 is a two component, fast set polyester resin mortar. Ideal for the rapid installation & reinstatement of manhole covers and frames in heavily trafficked areas. It is highly recommended for ductile ironwork and has been HAPAS approved since 2005. PY4 conforms to HA104/09, has a rapid strength gain and can be opened to traffic in 40 minutes. The UltraCrete PY4 Polyester Resin System comes in a 25Kg tub.

UltraCrete PY4 Polyester Resin System

Ultracrete PY4, is part of the Ultracrete BBA/HAPAS Approved Ironwork Reinstatement System. PY4 is a two component, fast set, rapid strength, polyester resin mortar, that produces a stiff supporting mortar. PY4 is ideal for the rapid installation and reinstatement of manhole frames, gully grates, kerbs and street furniture in heavily trafficked areas. HAPAS approved since 2005, PY4 conforms to HA104/09, has a rapid strength gain and can be opened to traffic in just 40 minutes. With a proven track record across many applications, Ultracrete PY4 is trusted by major contractions nationwide!

Technical information

  • Supplied as a two component system: it contains two equal parts of resin and two parts of activator/filler
  • Highly recommended to always use one tin of resin to one pack of filler/activator
  • When laying the material, a minimum thickness of 5mm and a maximum of 50mm should be adhered to
  • Can achieve 60 N/mm2 compressive strength in just one hour
  • Ideal for use as a bedding material for rapid construction in accordance with HA104/02 part 5, clause 6.1

How to mix PY4 Polyester Resin Bedding Mortar

PY4 should be mixed thoroughly with a forced action mixer or vigorously by hand with an appropriate tool:
  1. Add 1 tin of resin to 1 unit of filler/activator.
  2. Pour all the resin from the tin into the outer bucket and slowly add the filler until a homogeneous mix is attained.
  3. Mix only enough material to apply in 4 minutes. Do not part mix. Use immediately after mixing.

How to apply PY4 Polyester Resin Bedding Mortar

  1. The bedding material should be placed on the supporting structure immediately and used within 4 minutes of mixing.
  2. The frame should be lowered into position using suitable lifting equipment and placed on the bedding mortar, ensuring it is fully supported.
  3. Check that the frame does not overhang the mortar at any point.
  4. Care should be taken to prevent voids in the bedding material under the frame, particularly in the vicinity of the cover seating.
  5. Once the bedding material has reached its initial set, the backfill material UltraCrete QC10 can be placed.
